Shreya Ghoshal becomes Grammy voter
Singer Shreya Ghoshal has joined the Recording Academy as an official voting member for the Grammy Awards, which gives her a say in how music is recognised at the awards.
Voting members, who are working music professionals such as singers, songwriters, producers and engineers, take part in two rounds of voting. The first round decides the nominees, and the final round decides the winners. Ghoshal will now be able to contribute her perspective to that process.
Ghoshal is currently on her Unstoppable tour in the USA. She recently took part in a South Asian panel organised by the Recording Academy at its Los Angeles headquarters. The panel focused on evolving trends in South Asian music, culture and industry, and she shared the stage with Lara Raj of the Grammy-nominated group KATSEYE, singer Sameer Gadhia and Raashi Kulkarni, who is a Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter board member and Songwriting Wing co-chair.
Reacting to the milestone, Ghoshal said that being part of the Recording Academy’s voting community was a special moment for her. She said she felt grateful for the places music has taken her and proud to bring an Indian perspective to the platform, pointing to the country’s rich musical heritage and the many artists telling stories through their music.
Known for songs such as ‘Bahara’, ‘Teri Ore’ and ‘Chikni Chameli’, Ghoshal will next take her Unstoppable tour to Durban and Pretoria in South Africa.
